Hong Kong Investment Becomes Largest in Q2 2026

The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming recorded that the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) in the second quarter of 2026 originated from Hong Kong. Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani stated that the investment realisation from Hong Kong amounted to US$5.5 billion. “In this second quarter, for the first time in the last 10 years, China has invested more aggressively through Hong Kong,” he said during a press conference at the State Palace on Thursday, 16 July 2026. Following Hong Kong, the second-largest investment realisation came from Singapore at US$4.2 billion, followed by China at US$1.7 billion, Japan at approximately US$900 million, and Malaysia at around US$700 million. For comparison, the top countries of origin for investment in the first half of 2026 were Singapore at US$4.6 billion, Hong Kong at US$2.7 billion, China at US$2.2 billion, the United States at US$1.3 billion, and Japan at US$1 billion. Rosan noted that for the full first half period, Singapore remained the largest investor with a total realisation of US$8.8 billion, followed by Hong Kong at US$7.6 billion, China at US$3.9 billion, Japan at US$1.9 billion, and the United States at US$1.7 billion. “Singapore has maintained its role as the largest investor in Indonesia over the past 10 years,” he said. Rosan reported that investment realisation in the first half of 2026 increased by 7.2 per cent year-on-year. The total investment for the period reached Rp1,010.6 trillion, representing 49.5 per cent of the annual target of Rp2,441.3 trillion. “Most importantly, employment absorption reached 1,448,862 people, an increase of approximately 15 per cent,” he stated. In the first half, FDI realisation was recorded at Rp507.6 trillion, while domestic direct investment reached Rp502.9 trillion. By comparison, in the first half of 2025, FDI realisation was Rp432.6 trillion and domestic investment was Rp510.3 trillion.
