Hong Kong increases minimum wage for foreign domestic workers by 2.35 per cent
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government has announced that the minimum wage for foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong will be increased by 2.35 per cent to 5,220 Hong Kong dollars (1 HKD = Rp2,285), or approximately 665.22 US dollars (1 USD = Rp17,937) per month.
According to Xinhua, this new minimum wage rate will apply to all foreign domestic worker contracts signed on or after 3 October.
The food allowance, provided in lieu of free meals, will remain unchanged at a minimum of 1,236 Hong Kong dollars per month.
The Hong Kong SAR government stated that when reviewing the wage level, it followed the established mechanism through consultations with employers and domestic workers. The review also considered Hong Kong’s economic and employment conditions, short-term prospects, the financial capacity of employers, and the basic living requirements of foreign domestic workers.
