Hong Kong Inaugurates Third InnoHK Technology Research Cluster
The Innovation and Technology Commission of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government inaugurated its third InnoHK research cluster on Tuesday (1/9), marking a significant milestone in Hong Kong’s journey towards becoming an international innovation and technology hub.
The new cluster, named SEAM@InnoHK, focuses on four frontier technology areas: sustainable development, energy, advanced manufacturing, and materials.
Eight research centres, led by prestigious universities and research institutions from both domestic and international origins, have been approved to join this cluster, with total funding support from the Hong Kong SAR government amounting to at least HK$2.5 billion (approximately IDR 5.64 trillion).
In his speech during the launch ceremony, Sun Dong, the Hong Kong Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, stated that by integrating advanced technologies into local industries, this third research cluster demonstrates Hong Kong’s steadfast commitment to driving the real-world application of research findings to accelerate Hong Kong’s development into an international innovation and technology hub.
InnoHK is Hong Kong’s flagship international innovation and technology initiative, which aims to unite world-class institutions and local universities to establish research centres in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong has invested HK$10 billion to successfully establish two major platforms: Health@InnoHK, which focuses on healthcare technology, and AIR@InnoHK, which focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.
