Honda to sell cleaner cars
TOKYO (Reuters): Honda Motor Co Ltd said yesterday that it
will sell vehicles in Thailand and other Southeast Asian
countries that are less polluting than conventional cars.
Honda said in a statement it will initially launch a low-
emission Civic passenger car in Thailand in 1998, ahead of sales
in other countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations
(ASEAN).
Noxious emissions such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide
will be reduced to 10 percent of levels for cars currently sold
in Thailand, it said.
ASEAN comprises Brunei, Myanmar, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia,
the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Honda said it currently sells low-emission vehicles in the
United States, Canada and Japan.
