Honda Revives Insight Name as EV for Japan
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Honda is reviving the Insight name as an electric vehicle (EV) that will be marketed in Japan, based on a model produced in China with limited sales targets. According to Carscoops, reported on Friday (17/4) local time, the model used is a rebadged version of the Honda e:NS2, which was previously developed with their partner Dongfeng in China. The vehicle will appear under the Insight name, reviving the model previously known as Honda’s first mass-market hybrid car. This model is part of Honda’s line of electric vehicles developed specifically for the Chinese market before being adapted for other markets. The launch of the Insight EV comes amid a Japanese market still dominated by conventional and hybrid vehicles. Sales of pure electric cars in the country are recorded at below 2 percent of total new car sales. Honda is targeting limited sales of the Insight model, around 3,000 units, as a cautious approach to the still-developing EV demand in Japan.
