Honda Reveals Current LCGC Market Challenges
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The low-cost green car (LCGC) segment has begun showing sales recovery in April 2026 after weakening during the Lebaran holiday period. However, its contribution to the national automotive market has yet to return to normal levels. Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director of Honda Prospect Motor (HPM), Yusak Billy, stated that the LCGC segment is still dominated by first-time car buyers. “70% of its consumers are first-time buyers,” Billy said in Jakarta last weekend. “This segment is highly price-sensitive. Additionally, consumer purchasing power is currently declining, compounded by ongoing geopolitical issues,” he added. According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), LCGC wholesale sales reached 8,992 units in April 2026. National vehicle distribution totalled 80,776 units, a 31.8% increase from March 2026. However, the LCGC market continues to face pressure. Cumulative sales from January to April 2026 totalled 37,823 units, a 25% year-on-year decline from the same period last year’s 50,416 units. According to Billy, the main challenges in the LCGC market are not just vehicle pricing but also ongoing pressure on consumer purchasing power. Honda relies on the Brio Satya in the LCGC segment. The model remains a key sales driver for Honda in Indonesia, particularly targeting young consumers and first-time buyers. “Nevertheless, we are continuing to develop financing strategies to make it easier for consumers,” Billy said. According to Gaikindo data, the Brio Satya recorded 1,522 units distributed in April 2026, placing it third in the national LCGC best-sellers list. The Toyota Calya remains the market leader with 3,076 units sold, followed by the Daihatsu Sigra with 2,331 units. The Toyota Agya recorded 1,449 units and the Daihatsu Ayla 614 units.
