Honda Challenges Chinese EVs in Indonesia with Super-ONE Launch
Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) has officially introduced the compact electric vehicle Super-ONE at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026. This model marks not only its debut in Southeast Asia but also the beginning of a new chapter in Honda’s electrification strategy in Indonesia, where it has been relatively behind compared to some competitors.
Unlike some manufacturers that focus on specifications and range, Honda claims the driving experience is the core value it aims to preserve in the electric era. Therefore, the Super-ONE is claimed to remain ‘fun to drive’ despite the switch to electric power.
President Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor, Masanao Kataoka, stated that technological change does not mean erasing Honda’s identity as a manufacturer that prioritises driving sensation. ‘For Honda, evolution does not mean abandoning its identity. Technology will continue to develop according to the needs of the times, but every innovation we present must still carry the character that makes every Honda car enjoyable to drive. That is the philosophy we continue to hold as we enter the new era of mobility,’ said Kataoka.
On another occasion, he also emphasised that the development of the Super-ONE stemmed from the question of whether electric vehicles could still deliver an emotional driving experience. ‘When entering the electrification era, we asked one question. Can an electric car still feel emotional? Engaging? And fun to drive? The answer is the Honda Super-One. Every response, every movement, every detail. Designed to keep the Joy of Driving alive. Because technology will continue to develop. Products will continue to evolve. But Honda’s DNA will always be the same,’ he said.
Although it has been introduced to the public, Honda is still keeping the official price of the Super-ONE tightly under wraps. The company only confirmed that the price announcement will be made on 5 August 2026. ‘We cannot release the price yet; we will announce it on 5 August 2026,’ said Yusak Billy, Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor.
Honda also revealed that the Super-ONE will not be marketed in large volumes immediately. As an initial stage, the company plans to provide around 100 units on a limited basis in 2026 as part of the product introduction and to gauge market response.
In terms of design, the Super-ONE features compact dimensions typical of a Japanese kei car, making it suitable for urban areas. The body proportions are low and wide, with additional blister fenders and a track width increase of about 10 mm. The car also uses Yokohama Advan Fleva tyres. One of its key features is BOOST Mode, which, when activated, increases power from 47 kW to 70 kW.
