Homeward bound travellers begin transiting southern and central routes in Central Java
Banyumas (ANTARA) — Homeward bound travellers have begun transiting the southern and central routes of Central Java on the seventh day before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijrah on Saturday morning, though the volume of vehicles passing through several road sections remains relatively light.
Observations at Wangon Junction in Banyumas Regency showed that traffic on the southern Central Java route connecting Bandung to Yogyakarta was still dominated by local residents from Banyumas and Cilacap districts.
Nevertheless, several homeward bound travellers on motorcycles and private vehicles bearing registration plates from West Java regions including Bandung (D), East Priangan (Z), Purwakarta (T), and Bogor (F) have begun appearing on the southern Central Java route heading eastwards towards Yogyakarta.
Meanwhile, the Bumiayu-Ajibarang-Wangon route, which serves as a connector between the northern coast route and the central route (Ajibarang-Purwokerto-Banyumas-Wonosobo) as well as the southern Central Java route, has started becoming crowded with homeward bound motorcyclists bearing Jakarta and surrounding registration plates (B).
In addition, road conditions on the Wangon Junction to Klapagading Junction section have been monitored as relatively good as road improvement works on the section have been completed, thus expected to support smooth flow of Eid holiday travel this year.
A homeward bound motorcyclist resting at Wangon petrol station, Hendro, admitted he deliberately travelled home early to avoid traffic congestion that often occurs on several sections of the southern West Java route such as Rancaekek-Nagreg and Nagreg-Malangbong-Gentong.
“I left Sukabumi last night, and thankfully the journey has been smooth,” said the traveller headed for Kebumen.
Previously, the Head of Banyumas City Police Resort (Polresta) Senior Police Commissioner Petrus Silalahi stated that Wangon is one of the entry and exit gates of Banyumas regency, particularly for vehicles transiting the southern Central Java route.
“We have held meetings to prepare various traffic management schemes for when vehicle volumes increase,” he said in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, on Thursday (12/3).
