South Tangerang, Kompas.com – Several homes in the Taman Mangu Indah area, Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, were seen displaying banners reading “for sale” on Sunday (3/5/2026). This situation has arisen because the area is frequently hit by flooding due to overflows from the Ciputat River. Based on Kompas.com’s observations at the site, sales banners were visible at several points in the housing complex, particularly on homes located directly across from the river. This location is said to be the most often submerged. Meanwhile, some other homes are still occupied, but brown-coloured water stains are visible on walls and fences. On several neighbourhood roads, the asphalt appears cracked and uneven. Through the cracks, remnants of green moss are visible, indicating that the area is often waterlogged. These gaps are also said to frequently serve as seepage routes for river water during rain, making the roads damp and slippery. On some parts of residents’ homes, flood marks are visible reaching about 30 centimetres, marked by the brownish discolouration of the walls. The head of RT 04 RW 12 Taman Mangu Indah, Imawan Susanto (52), stated that flooding now occurs more frequently, even triggered by light rain. “Now flooding is constant; a little rain and it floods. It floods all the time,” said Imawan when met by Kompas.com at the location on Sunday. He explained that previously, flooding only happened at certain periods, about once every five years. But now, it can occur several times in a single year. “Even several times a year; sometimes I feel sorry for my residents whose homes haven’t been renovated and often get submerged,” he said.
