Homes Demolished and Flattened for Depok Road Widening Project

A number of residents affected by the road-widening project for Jalan Enggram and Jalan Pemuda in the Sawangan area of Depok City have begun demolishing buildings using heavy equipment. The move is part of the road-widening project planned for this year, as the stretch will function as one of the main access routes to the Sawangan area. Based on monitoring by CNBC Indonesia, several building owners were seen starting to remove construction elements such as roofs, fences, and parts of walls that fall within the project’s boundary line. The demolished buildings are on the right side of Jalan Enggram heading towards Jalan Pemuda. Around seven buildings have been demolished, ranging from residential houses and rental properties to educational facilities such as a kindergarten. One resident revealed that the demolition process has been underway for the past few days. Residents mentioned that some people demolished their entire buildings using heavy equipment, while others only did so partially. “Some were partially demolished and then shifted, others only had their roofs removed. It has been going on for several days now,” the resident said. For context, the Depok City Government is taking strategic steps to alleviate the frequent traffic congestion in the Jalan Raya Sawangan area, particularly around the Tugu Batu and Parung Bingung intersections. One of the prioritised efforts is the widening of Jalan Enggram in the Sawangan Baru sub-district, Sawangan district, which will serve as an important alternative route.
