Jakarta — Homebound travellers who stop on an expressway shoulder for more than one to two minutes will be detected by monitoring cameras installed along the toll road sections.

The system automatically captures the activity of vehicles that stop, as well as other violations during transit.

Rivan A Purwantono, Chief Executive of Jasa Marga, stated that cameras on expressways are capable of recording various vehicle activities, including vehicles that stop for too long on the roadside.

According to him, the camera system also monitors the speed of vehicles travelling on the expressway. Data captured can classify vehicles by speed category.

“Even speed—recently we had some speeding on the MBZ, and their profiles are already photographed. The groupings are 80 kilometres and below, 80–100, and 100 and above,” he said.

He explained that the installed cameras have high quality and are able to record vehicles clearly, including driver behaviour.

“And it captures everything, including driving behaviour, with the camera quality. So actually the purpose of this is not to take action, since that is not within our authority. But rather to ensure that every expressway user is identified, so everyone needs to be careful,” Rivan said.

Rivan added that the monitoring is expected to enhance the safety of expressway users, particularly during the busy homebound travel period.

“This is what we hope for. During this holiday exodus too, everyone should do the same—practise safety, caution, and vigilance,” he concluded.
