PURWAKARTA — Tollway operators are urging homebound travellers not to stop or park in front of emergency refuge lanes, which are designated for vehicles experiencing technical problems.

This facility is provided specifically for emergency situations and should not be used as a resting place.

Agni Mayvinna, Senior Manager Representative Office 3 Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad, stated that Emergency Refuge Lanes (JPD) are designed to assist vehicles experiencing technical difficulties on the road, such as brake failure, to stop safely.

However, the operator emphasised that these lanes are not designated for stopping or parking vehicles.

“We must reiterate that these emergency refuge lanes are not parking bays and not places to park. Please do not park at the entrance to emergency refuge lanes as this is extremely dangerous for other road users,” she said.

“These lanes are specifically for vehicles in emergency situations, so they should not be used as parking areas. Admittedly, they sometimes appear empty, which leads some people to mistakenly think they are stopping points,” she added.

During the Lebaran homebound travel period, travellers are also reminded not to rest on the tollway shoulders as this poses a danger to themselves and other road users.

By adhering to these regulations, the homebound journey is expected to be safer and smoother for all road users.
