Home Renovation Trend Rises Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026, Construction Materials Sector Boosted
JAKARTA — The momentum of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah is not only driving increased consumer spending, but also spurring home renovation activities and purchases of household furnishings and equipment. This trend is propelling the construction materials and furniture sectors ahead of Eid 2026.
Eid al-Fitr this year is expected to fall on 20 or 21 March 2026. As the celebration approaches, communities are preparing various necessities, ranging from food and Eid clothing to home improvements.
Home renovation is often a tradition amongst Indonesia’s Muslim communities ahead of Ramadan. The intention is to present a refreshed home appearance when celebrating Eid al-Fitr with family and relatives.
Based on Ramadan shopping trend research from Populix, household furnishings and land and construction requirements are among the products that remain in demand during the fasting month. The research noted that approximately 11 per cent of Indonesia’s Muslim community still purchase household furniture during Ramadan, whilst 2 per cent plan to buy products related to land or construction.
The tradition of open houses and family gatherings during Eid also encourages communities to update their home appearance to make it more comfortable for guests. Additionally, religious activities during Ramadan such as sahur (pre-dawn meal) and breaking the fast also drive awareness to create more functional and comfortable homes.
From a financial perspective, plans to refresh homes are also supported by Eid holiday allowances (THR). Many people utilise these funds to meet Eid needs, including purchasing household furnishings or construction materials. YouGov data shows that approximately 55 per cent of respondents set aside THR funds for Eid shopping needs.
Amidst this trend, minimalist and functional housing concepts have become one of the styles much sought after by communities. This design is considered capable of creating a warm home atmosphere whilst facilitating family activities during Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Several housing design trends estimated to be popular during Ramadan include design reimagined, quiet luxury, tactile minimalism, biophilic performance, and value-driven design that emphasises cost efficiency with reliable material quality.
Gunarso, Director of PT Keramika Indonesia Assosiasi Tbk, stated that home interior design plays an important role in creating an atmosphere of togetherness during Eid.
“In interior design, every space has a story. Similarly, Eid is a moment to create new space in the heart filled with peace and togetherness. Therefore, KIA Ceramics offers various design variations, sizes, and colours to meet home needs,” said Gunarso.
Minimalist and Functional Housing Trends
In the spirit of returning to one’s natural disposition ahead of Eid al-Fitr, homes become the centre of various family and spiritual activities. Because of this, homes are not only required to be aesthetically beautiful, but also capable of providing comfort for all inhabitants.
One emerging trend is the “Seamless Serenity” concept, which is a combination of organic textures that connect indoor and outdoor areas, thereby creating an impression of a more lively space.
The “Quiet Luxury” concept is also a choice for some communities who desire a calm and simple home atmosphere, yet remain elegant.
Furthermore, the “Tactile Minimalism” approach presents minimalist design with more dynamic surface textures, whilst the “Biophilic Performance” concept emphasises the use of natural light, fresh air, and natural elements in homes.
The “Value-Driven Design” concept focuses on selecting cost-efficient materials whilst still maintaining good quality.
To support home renovation needs, several construction material companies offer various products that communities can use. PT Semen Jawa, through its SCG brand, for example, provides a range of construction products such as cement, mortar, and other building materials.
