Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) and Head of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) Tito Karnavian is optimistic that the programme to renovate unfit homes (RTLH) in 3T (disadvantaged, frontier, outermost) areas and border regions will drive the wheels of the economy and development in those areas.

“This home renovation in the border areas can also trigger and encourage friends from other ministries to create programmes in the border regions. Whether in the market sector, or building docks, then schools, specifically for border areas,” said Tito during a press conference on the 15,000 Unfit Home Quality Improvement Programme (RTLH) in Border Areas, at the BNPP Office, Jakarta, on Thursday.

The Minister of Home Affairs stated that the programme, run by the National Border Management Agency and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PKP), is a tangible manifestation of the government’s efforts to bring equitable development to communities in border regions.

Tito revealed that the programme is designed to truly address the real needs of the people in those areas. This programme is also intended to improve the welfare of border residents so that they feel proud to be part of Indonesia.

He assessed that improving the welfare of communities in border areas also has strategic impacts in strengthening national resilience.

“There is economic activity because, for example, they will order materials from hardware stores, the hardware stores will thrive, cement, sand, trucks transporting to the project sites will also thrive with their drivers, women selling at stalls, shops will also run. The economy moves as a whole, adding jobs,” said Maruarar.

He mentioned that the total budget for the Ministry of PKP in 2026 reaches more than Rp10 trillion, with the majority focused on the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme.

“Our budget is around more than Rp10 trillion, 80 percent we dedicate to home renovations,” he said.

He explained that this allocation is equivalent to around Rp8 trillion used to support the national home renovation target.

According to him, the BSPS programme is part of the government’s target to renovate around 400,000 homes in 2026, a significant increase compared to the previous year’s realisation.
