Home Renovation Programme for Parents of Sekolah Rakyat Students Begins in Madura

A home renovation programme for families of Sekolah Rakyat students, a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Housing and Residential Areas, has begun in Sumenep, Madura, East Java.

Field verification has been completed to ensure all requirements are met. In Sumenep Regency, a quota of 50 locations is available, with eight having already passed verification.

“The renovation process is likely to start next month; we are still waiting for the decree of determination,” said Agung Candra, Coordinator of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) Programme for Sumenep Regency, on Saturday (8/8).

The statement was made during factual verification with Special Staff to the Minister of Social Affairs Ishaq Zubaedi Raqib, Expert Staff Ahmad Rifai, Head of Subdivision of Dayamas Ronny Khalisadi Suryanegara, Social Worker for the Directorate of PSKMR Andi Rian Julian Asmar, and Family Hope Programme (PKH) assistants.

Factual verification on Saturday targeted three locations: the home of Susanti in Pasar Kayu Hamlet RT 1 RW 1, Pabian Village, and the homes of Indri Novianti and Ika Triani in Panggarangan Village, Kota Sumenep District.

“We will process this immediately. At Sekolah Rakyat, not only are the children educated, but the parents are also empowered,” said the Special Staff to the Minister of Social Affairs, Ishaq Zubaedi Raqib.

Susanti, a resident of Pabian Village, expressed gratitude that her family also receives Family Hope Programme (PKH) assistance, BNPT, and socio-economic empowerment programme (PPSE) aid.

“We received goods like a freezer, for selling ice around the night market,” she said.

Meanwhile, at the homes of Indri Novianti and Ika Triani, Ishaq advised the Ministry of Housing team to tailor the renovation to the needs of the beneficiaries, who run a laundry business.

“Match the house profile with their business, where the laundry is and so on,” he said.

Furthermore, Ishaq also requested Ministry of Social Affairs officials to provide empowerment assistance to beneficiaries so they can become self-reliant.

Nationally, the 3 Million Houses Programme targets the renovation of 10,000 uninhabitable homes (RTLH) for parents of Sekolah Rakyat students, implemented through the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) Programme.
