Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian stated that the work-from-home (WFH) proposal would be implemented for one day per week, although the finalisation of the decision awaits the President’s directive.

Speaking after the press conference on the Best Quick Results Programme (PHTC) in the Education Sector in Jakarta on Wednesday, Minister Tito Karnavian mentioned that ministries and agencies had already held meetings regarding the WFH proposal as an effort to save energy amid the rise in global oil prices.

“What I heard is one day during the week. But which day will be chosen, let the decision-makers handle it; wait for the results of yesterday’s meeting to be reported to the President,” Tito said.

He conveyed that in the previous meeting, relevant ministers had leaned towards the same day for implementing WFH. However, he stated that he could not elaborate further and asked to wait for the official announcement.

On the other hand, he assured that he would conduct outreach to local governments to ensure that essential services continue to operate if the WFH proposal is implemented.

Tito himself emphasised that the WFH scheme is not something new, as the same work pattern was carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Previously, the government planned to implement the WFH policy after Eid al-Fitr as a step to save energy amid the rise in global oil prices.

In a statement on Saturday (21/3), the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that this policy applies to Civil Servants (ASN) and is also encouraged for the private sector.
