Home Minister Tito: House Renovation Programme Strengthened as Tangible Proof of Government's Pro-Poor Stance
Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has affirmed the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens by strengthening the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Programme (BSPS), commonly known as the house renovation programme. The programme is one of the strategies to help low-income communities (MBR) obtain decent housing.
This was conveyed by the Home Minister during a review of the BSPS programme’s implementation in Pone Village, West Limboto District, Gorontalo Regency, on Tuesday (23/6/2026). On that occasion, the Minister stressed that the government’s attention to ordinary people is evident from the increased coverage of the house renovation programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.
“Our President, Mr Prabowo Subianto, cares deeply for the common people. This is a small example of his concern, which may not be widely noticed, [namely] the house renovation programme,” he explained.
The Home Minister assessed that the provision of liveable housing is closely linked to efforts to reduce poverty rates. Based on data presented during the visit, the number of uninhabitable houses in Gorontalo remains quite high and correlates with the region’s poverty level.
According to him, many poor families face the problem of limited access to decent housing. Therefore, resolving housing issues will have a direct impact on improving community welfare. “If we solve the housing problem, we can solve the poverty problem,” he said.
In addition to house construction, the government is also strengthening legal certainty of home ownership through a land certification programme. This step is carried out through cross-ministerial and institutional synergy to provide guaranteed land rights for beneficiary communities.
During the review, the Home Minister also spoke with one of the recipients of the house renovation assistance. The beneficiary expressed gratitude and thanks to President Prabowo Subianto for the assistance received.
The Home Minister expressed his pleasure at seeing the change in the condition of the beneficiary’s house, which has now become more liveable. He also appreciated the swift work of various parties, especially the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas and other related ministries/institutions involved in implementing the programme.
