Home Minister: House Renovation Programme a Tangible Sign of Government's Pro-Poor Stance
Home Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has stated that the government’s attention to the poor is evident in the expanded scope of the home renovation programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.
“Our President, Mr Prabowo Subianto, cares deeply for the common people. This is a small example of his concern, which may not be widely noticed, namely the home renovation programme,” Tito said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, during a review of the Bantuan Stimulan Perumahan Swadaya (BSPS) programme in Pone Village, Limboto Barat District, Gorontalo Regency, on Tuesday (23/6).
He assessed that the provision of decent housing is closely linked to efforts to reduce poverty. Based on data presented during the visit, the number of uninhabitable houses in Gorontalo remains quite high and correlates with the region’s poverty level.
According to him, many poor families face limited access to decent housing. Therefore, resolving housing issues will have a direct impact on improving public welfare.
“If we solve the housing problem, we can solve the poverty problem,” he said.
During the review, the minister also spoke with a beneficiary of the home renovation programme. The recipient expressed gratitude and thanked President Prabowo Subianto for the assistance received.
The minister said he was pleased to see the change in the beneficiary’s house, which has now become more liveable. He also appreciated the swift work of various parties, especially the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas and other relevant ministries and agencies involved in implementing the programme.
