Home minister accused of fraud

JAKARTA: A member of the Regional Autonomy Consultative
Council (DPOD) Tabrani Rab reported Home Affairs Minister Hari
Sabarno to the Jakarta Police office Tuesday for public
deception, action unbecoming of a minister and fraud.

Tabrani said that the reason for the report was over the
proposal on the establishment of the Riau islands province.

He revealed that most DPOD members expressed their rejection
of the proposal to form a separate province for Riau islands at
an internal meeting on March 21.

But, Hari Sabarno sent him a letter on June 11, informing them
that he did not recognize the conclusions of the meeting. Hari
said in the letter that DPOD had no authority to make such a
decision.

Instead of considering the DPOD rejection, Hari pushed ahead
with the establishment of the Riau islands province, he said.

Tabrani said he planned to report the minister to the State
Administrative Court for violating Law No.22/1999 on Regional
Autonomy. -- JP
