Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno has emphasised that the proposal for students to learn from home starting in April has been cancelled. Students will continue with face-to-face learning at school amid the ongoing global crisis.

Pratikno stated that this decision resulted from coordination with the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) and the Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag). He added that the education sector must be optimised to avoid any learning loss during the current global crisis.

This was conveyed by Pratikno during an internal briefing to the deputy and education deputy of Kemenko PMK on Monday (23/3/2026). He then referenced President Prabowo’s instructions at the plenary session in the State Palace on Friday (13/3), stating that the global crisis situation should serve as momentum to accelerate the national transformation agenda.

He acknowledged that there had been discussions about the potential for hybrid learning methods, both online and offline. However, to maintain the quality of student education, cross-ministerial discussions concluded that online learning is not a current priority.

“As per the extraordinary priority given by the President to the education sector, from school revitalisation, Sekolah Rakyat, and Sekolah Unggul Garuda, we must accelerate the improvement of overall education quality, whether under Kemendikdasmen, Kemenag, or Kemendiktisainstek. This is a priority. This is paramount,” said Pratikno, as quoted by Kemenko PMK and cited by detikEdu on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

Pratikno also instructed the acceleration of electronic-based government system transformation, improvement of bureaucratic performance, enhancement of public services, and efficiency in all areas. Additionally, he requested the reduction of non-essential official travel, optimisation of meetings and conferences via online means, and the measured implementation of flexible working hours or FWA.

“Public services, improvement of human resource quality, and support for accelerating equitable development must continue to be strengthened through smarter and more efficient methods,” he stated.
