HO CHI MINH CITY (AFP): Favorite Luu Van Hung narrowly won the Ho Chi Minh City marathon on Friday in a time of two hours 44 minutes and nine seconds.
Hung, from Thanh Hoa province, finished 16 seconds ahead of Pham Quoc Quyen of Ho Chi Minh City with Nguyen Cong Nam from Ha Tay province a further 35 seconds back in third place.
Cambodian Torithya was fourth in 2:52.40.
About a quarter of the 120 athletes who braved the morning heat and commuter smog to start the marathon withdrew during the race.
