Home Affairs Ministry Urges Regional Governments to Expand Digital Identity Activation

The Ministry of Home Affairs is pushing to accelerate the digital transformation of population administration services in Indonesia by rebranding the Dukcapil programme. The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) is inviting all regional governments to expand the activation of Digital Population Identity (IKD) as a gateway to more integrated public services.

The ministry held a rebranding event for population and civil registration services in Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, on Friday (24/7/2026). The outreach event for population administration services was attended by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission II Bahtra Banong, member of Commission I Mustajab, Kolaka Regent Amri, and officials from the Kolaka district administration down to the village level.

In a press release issued in Jakarta on Monday (27/7/2026), Deputy Chairman of Commission II Bahtra Banong stated in his online remarks that the utilisation of accurate population data is a crucial foundation for ensuring that social assistance is distributed to the right targets. He said the digital transformation through the use of IKD must continue to be encouraged so that every government programme can run more effectively, efficiently, and transparently, and provide benefits to those who are entitled. ‘We appreciate the synergy between the Directorate General of Dukcapil, regional governments, and all stakeholders in supporting the acceleration of data-based public service transformation,’ he said.

Director of Population Administration Apparatus Development at the Directorate General of Dukcapil, Erliani Budi Lestari, explained that the transformation of population services no longer stops at the issuance of administrative documents but has evolved into the foundation for digital governance. She emphasised that accurate population data is a strategic asset in supporting various public services.
