Home Affairs Ministry to Launch Digital Birth Certificates Sent Directly to Email to Cut Bureaucracy

The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) together with the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) will launch a new system for issuing digital birth certificates. This system aims to cut bureaucracy and make it easier for the public to manage children’s administrative documents.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said that every child born in a health facility will immediately receive a birth certificate sent via electronic mail to the parents’ email address. “Currently, those who give birth in a hospital or community health centre, the parents have to go to the Civil Registry Office to take care of it, which is a hassle,” Tito said during the National Coordination Meeting of the Civil Registry and the Release of Semester I 2026 Population Data on Monday, 3 August 2026.

“Now we want to integrate with the Ministry of Health. We will launch it on Friday, where every child born in a Ministry of Health facility, whether a central hospital, regional hospital, or community health centre, will be connected,” he continued. He explained that the Ministry of Health will directly inform the Civil Registry of every baby born. Subsequently, the Civil Registry will immediately issue the child’s birth certificate online.

“The Civil Registry will later issue the birth certificate directly online. It can be sent via email to the parents or to whoever’s email the parents provide, because not everyone has an email address,” he said. Tito expressed hope that this service transformation would close gaps for unscrupulous bureaucratic officers to extort the public. “That is a leap forward and this will provide good service, good practice to the community. That is what the public has been waiting for. The point is, the Ministry and the Civil Registry can no longer play games; people wanting to make birth certificates should not be charged money, please don’t,” Tito concluded.
