The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has stated that it has prepared a draft to discuss the Election Bill (RUU Pemilu). This draft is ready should the DPR invite discussions at any time. “Kemendagri is already prepared, as we have been processing this with partners at Bappenas, as well as universities providing input and research institutions. Currently, it is led by the Directorate General of Political and Public Administration,” explained Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya to reporters at his office on Monday (27/4/2026). “We have prepared the substances to anticipate all possible developments in the DPR. The important thing is that we have the script ready, the government’s views, the inventory of problems list, and strategic issues. So, whenever the political process requires it, we are ready,” he added. DPR Stresses It Will Not Discuss Election Bill Secretly House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani refuted rumours that the DPR is discussing revisions to the Election Law secretly or behind closed doors. Puan said communications are conducted both formally and informally. “Regarding the Election Bill, there is indeed a time limit, and political communications continue to be carried out within political parties, and they are not done secretly,” Puan stated during a press conference at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4). Puan said the DPR continues to communicate formally and informally. “Communications can be formal or informal, but political communications are always ongoing,” she said. The PDIP DPP Chair ensured that the upcoming elections will run honestly and fairly. Puan hopes no one will be disadvantaged by the revision of the Election Law to be discussed. “The main spirit is to ensure that the elections can run honestly and fairly, proceeding well, preserving the democratic spirit without harming the nation and state,” she said.
