Home Affairs Ministry Closely Monitors Acceleration of Waste-to-Energy Facility Development in Regions
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the acceleration of Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility development in the regions. This support was conveyed by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto following his attendance at the signing of a joint agreement between regional governments (Pemda) and Danantara regarding the acceleration of PSEL construction.
Bima stated that Kemendagri will oversee the implementation of the programme to ensure that various local obstacles can be promptly resolved. Assistance will cover land readiness, waste transportation, environmental aspects, and other requirements.
“Insyaallah, Kemendagri will oversee matters from land issues, the volume of waste transported, the environment, and others in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Home Affairs,” Bima said at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, Jakarta, on Monday, 11 May 2026.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan explained that President Prabowo Subianto has placed significant emphasis on resolving Indonesia’s waste problems. “Therefore, we must urgently address the waste issue that has long been an environmental burden, causing land, water, and air pollution, and threatening public health,” he clarified.
He emphasised that Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 109 of 2025 mandates the acceleration of waste management. As such, waste piles in various regions will be processed into electrical energy using modern, safe technologies that have been implemented in several countries.
He mentioned that the programme targets 25 locations covering 62 districts/cities. In the initial phase, it focuses on regions classified as waste emergencies.
In that event, the joint agreement signing was conducted by several regional governments in six locations. These areas include Serang Raya, Semarang Raya, Bekasi Regency, Bogor Raya, Medan Raya, and Lampung Raya.
Also present at the event were Minister of Environment and Forestry Jumhur Hidayat, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Danantara Pandu Sjahrir, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria, as well as several governors and regents/mayors who signed the agreements.
