Home Affairs Ministry Awards High-Performing Regional Governments in Java and Bali
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has awarded a number of high-performing regional governments in Java and Bali. The awards were given in four categories, ranging from the 3 Million Houses programme to waste and environmental management.
The awards were presented at the Regional Government Performance Appreciation Batch 2 Year 2026 Region II Java-Bali event at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Badung, on Friday evening (28/8/2026).
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said the awards were part of the 2026 Regional Government Performance Appreciation series. “On Friday, 28 August 2020, at 7.30 pm, the award ceremony for high-achieving regional heads in the Java-Bali cluster began,” he said on Friday (28/8/2026).
The four categories assessed were Waste Management and a Beautiful Environment, Population Access to Education Services, Access to and Quality of Health Services, and Implementation of the 3 Million Houses Programme.
Tito said the four categories were chosen because they relate to the basic needs of the community and the efforts of regional governments to improve the quality of life of their citizens.
“Starting from regional issues, the regional head who is most pro-policy in supporting the community housing climate. Then, the second is access to education, which is very fundamental. Access to health for the community is also very fundamental, and the fourth is the issue of waste management. That means cleanliness, sustainability, comfort, and the beauty of each respective environment,” he explained.
In each category, awards were given to regional governments at the provincial, regency, and city levels. For the regency and city levels, there were three winners each, while at the provincial level there were two winners.
Tito said the awards were not only a form of appreciation but could also serve as incentives for high-performing regions. However, in this second batch, the form of the awards was reduced in consideration of budget efficiency from the Ministry of Finance.
“Some are in the form of fiscal incentives, and some are in the form of house renovation quotas from the Ministry of Housing,” he said.
The following is a list of regional governments receiving the 2026 Regional Government Performance Appreciation awards for Region II Java-Bali:
- Implementation of the 3 Million Houses Programme Category
Provincial level: West Java Province, Banten Province
Regency level: Banyuwangi Regency, Kuningan Regency, Madiun Regency
City level: Bogor City, Surabaya City, Cilegon City
- Access to and Quality of Health Services Category
Provincial level: Bali Province, DKI Jakarta Province
Regency level: Rembang Regency, Bantul Regency, Klungkung Regency
City level: Mojokerto City, Tegal City, Surabaya City
- Population Access to Education Services Category
Provincial level: D.I. Yogyakarta Province, Bali Province
Regency level: Ponorogo Regency, Kulon Progo Regency, Magetan Regency
City level: Salatiga City, Blitar City, Madiun City
- Waste Management and a Beautiful Environment Category
Provincial level: East Java Province, Central Java Province
Regency level: Wonosobo Regency, Sidoarjo Regency, Ciamis Regency
City level: Malang City, Blitar City, Surabaya City
In addition to being a form of appreciation, Tito said the event was a momentum for regional heads across Java and Bali to meet and exchange experiences.
Tito expressed hope that the awards would encourage regional governments to continue improving their performance. Meanwhile, regions that had not yet received awards were expected to improve their performance to participate in the next assessment.
“Our hope with this event is that our colleagues who win will be even more enthusiastic, and those who have not been fortunate will be motivated to improve and to win the next competition. That is roughly it,” he concluded.
