“We will maintain it up to Eid al-Fitr,” Jakarta (ANTARA) - Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Tomsi Tohir urged all regional governments (Pemda) to remain vigilant and safeguard the availability of commodity supplies in markets until Eid al-Fitr. “We will maintain it up to Eid al-Fitr,” Tomsi said in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. The remarks were made at the 2026 Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, which was held in conjunction with an evaluation of the Three Million Homes Programme and the administration of the Halal Product Guarantee at the Kemendagri office, Jakarta. Tomsi also noted that local governments had succeeded in controlling inflation in volatile food price components ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 2026. He also asked regional heads to proactively respond to anomalies in commodity price increases in their regions by going directly to the markets. He stated that local governments could imitate the strategies of neighbouring regions in controlling inflation. In this way, no nearby region would have inflation performance that diverges extremely. Tomsi also issued a stern warning to individuals within distribution circles who deliberately manipulate the prices of essential goods among the public. He asked local governments together with law enforcement authorities to act decisively, including revoking business licences of parties proven to commit economic crimes by unreasonably increasing prices. “Do not hesitate. Yes, it is time for us to act decisively,” Tomsi stressed. In addition, Tomsi praised the performance of all ministries, agencies, and local governments because the majority of key commodity prices remained below the Selling Price Reference (HAP). He said that the pricing condition of staple foods during Ramadan this year was judged to be much more affordable compared with 2025. “Therefore, I would like to thank all ministries/agencies and all levels of government for their hard work,” he said.
