The Provincial Government of Bali won two awards at the 2026 Java-Bali Regional Outstanding Government Appreciation event organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Marriott Hotel in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, last night. Bali became the only province to secure awards in two categories simultaneously, namely poverty and stunting reduction, and inflation control. The awards were presented as a form of central government appreciation for the performance of regional governments in addressing various strategic issues, from unemployment, poverty, and stunting to inflation and innovative development financing. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian stated that many regional heads have shown positive performance in running the government and improving public welfare. He said, “Despite some regions possibly facing legal issues, the fact is that quite a number of regional heads are caring, high-achieving, and capable of handling poverty and unemployment well.” According to Tito, the awards are expected to motivate all regional governments to continue improving the quality of public services and the effectiveness of development programmes. He also revealed that the government would continue the evaluation process of regional government performance through the next wave of assessments covering around 6,000 regions with different categories. The assessment will be conducted until the end of November. Tito emphasised that the entire assessment process was carried out objectively and based on measurable indicators. He said, “I directly supervise the assessment process. This assessment uses quantitative figures that are open and accountable.” According to him, a competitive assessment system is necessary to encourage regions to maintain and improve their performance. Successful regions are expected to become examples for other regions in implementing development programmes and serving the community. In addition to presenting awards, the Ministry of Home Affairs stressed the importance of political stability and security as the main foundation for regional development. Tito stated that economic and social development will not operate optimally without a conducive political situation. “Without a conducive political situation, physical and economic development programmes will not run optimally,” he said. He added that the government continues to monitor several key indicators of public welfare such as unemployment rates, poverty figures, stunting prevalence, and the inflation rate. Regarding inflation, Tito mentioned that the national condition remains under control and within the target range set by the government. The award ceremony was opened by the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. In his remarks, Sri Sultan emphasised that the awards given were not merely a symbol of appreciation, but also recognition of the regional governments’ success in producing real change for the community. He said, “Tonight’s award is not just symbolic appreciation, but confirmation that the right policies, when implemented with sincerity, can produce measurable change in real life.” He added that good governance is a long-term investment whose benefits will be felt by the community for generations to come. In the event, the Ministry of Home Affairs presented awards in four strategic categories: reducing unemployment rates, poverty and stunting reduction, creative financing, and inflation control.
