Home Affairs Ministry Applauds Papua Regional Governments, Urges Performance Improvement
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Ribka Haluk has expressed appreciation for regional governments (Pemda) in Papua that received awards in the Regional Papua Pemda Achievement Appreciation event. The awards, presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), recognise regional successes across several fields.
“I, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, convey my appreciation and congratulations to the regional governments, both provincial and district/city, that have received awards from the Ministry of Home Affairs for their achievements and governance performance,” Ribka stated in a written release on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
She made the remarks during the Regional Papua Pemda Achievement Appreciation event held at the Suni Abepura Hotel in Jayapura City, Papua, on Monday (22/6/2026). Ribka explained that the Pemda appreciation programme will be conducted in several rounds. Therefore, regions that did not succeed in receiving awards in this round are expected to improve on the various assessment indicators.
Ribka noted that there are still several aspects that need improvement by regions that have not yet received awards. These improvements are crucial to enhance the quality of governance and provide the regions with an opportunity to receive awards in subsequent rounds. “We hope that regional governments that have not yet received rewards for their governance will be able to receive them in the next round,” she said.
The awards were given based on regional performance achievements in four categories: Reducing Unemployment, Creative Financing, Inflation Control, and Poverty Alleviation and Stunting Reduction. The programme is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ effort to encourage improved regional government performance through a healthy competition-based appreciation system. The programme is implemented across six regions—Sumatra, Kalimantan, Maluku-Nusa Tenggara (Nusra), Java-Bali, Sulawesi, and Papua—to ensure that regions with different fiscal capacities can compete fairly.
