Home Affairs Ministry and Regional Governments Commit to Optimising House Renovation Programme

Jakarta - Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian has affirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs, together with regional government officials, is committed to optimising the implementation of the house renovation programme, or Stimulant Assistance for Self-Help Housing (BSPS), which is eagerly awaited by the public. This commitment aligns with the planned issuance of a Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Regulation to accelerate the achievement of the target of 400,000 BSPS recipients. “And this is highly anticipated and well-received by the public because it improves the homes of underprivileged and uninhabitable communities,” Tito said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. The Minister conveyed this to the media following a meeting with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, the Head of Statistics Indonesia, and the Head of the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency at the BPKP Office in Jakarta on Tuesday. The meeting also discussed the acceleration of permanent housing construction for communities affected by disasters in Sumatra. The Home Affairs Minister, who also serves as the Head of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra, acknowledged that building thousands of permanent houses is not an easy task. He therefore appreciated the readiness of the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, which continues to finalise development plans by involving various relevant parties. “Honestly, I am relieved as the Task Force Head because I see the timeline and the plans are on progress, good. In fact, there has been a lot of coordination, including land that has already been acquired, which is truly reassuring and we will follow up later,” he stated. To accelerate implementation, the Home Affairs Minister will follow up on the plan with the Minister of Public Works, the President Director of PT PLN, and all regional heads in the disaster-affected areas in Sumatra. Additionally, the meeting highlighted input from real estate business players regarding regions that have not yet implemented policies on waiving Building Approval fees and Land and Building Rights Acquisition Duty for low-income communities. The Home Affairs Minister stressed that his party will check on regions that have not implemented these policies. “After that, we will use a circular letter, a kind of reminder to them. And then we will also give awards in six regions across Indonesia, the Kalimantan, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java-Bali regions and others, in the form of fiscal incentives for regional heads who are pro-housing,” he said. On the same occasion, the Home Affairs Minister also requested the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency to carry out its supervisory function over regions that have not implemented the policy. With these steps, he hopes the public housing programme can run more optimally.
