Home Affairs Ministry and Regional Governments Commit to Optimising House Renovation Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian has affirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs, together with regional governments, is committed to optimising the implementation of the house renovation programme, officially known as Self-Funded Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS), which is eagerly awaited by the public.
The commitment aligns with plans to issue a regulation by the Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP) to accelerate the achievement of the 400,000 BSPS recipient target.
“And this is highly anticipated and welcomed by the public because it improves the homes of people who are less well-off and whose houses are uninhabitable,” Tito said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Minister of Home Affairs made the remarks to journalists after attending a meeting with the Minister of Housing and Residential Areas, the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Head of the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) at the BPKP office in Jakarta on Tuesday. The meeting also discussed accelerating the construction of permanent housing (huntap) for communities affected by disasters in Sumatra.
The Minister of Home Affairs, who also serves as Head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force for Sumatra, acknowledged that building thousands of permanent homes is no easy task.
He therefore praised the readiness of the Ministry of Housing and Residential Areas, which continues to refine construction plans involving various relevant parties.
“Honestly, as task force head I feel relieved because the timeline and plans are progressing well. Much coordination has already taken place, including the acquisition of land, which is truly reassuring, and we will follow up on it later,” he said.
To accelerate implementation, the Minister of Home Affairs will follow up on these plans together with the Minister of Public Works, the President Director of PT PLN and all regional heads in disaster-affected areas of Sumatra.
In addition, the meeting raised input from real estate businesses regarding regions that have yet to implement policies waiving Building Approval (PBG) fees and Land and Building Acquisition Duty (BPHTB) for low-income communities (MBR).
The Minister of Home Affairs stressed that his side will check on regions that have not yet implemented such policies.
“After that, we will issue a circular, of sorts, to remind them. We will also later give awards across six regions throughout Indonesia — Kalimantan, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java-Bali and others — in the form of fiscal incentives for regional heads who are supportive in the housing sector,” he said.
On the same occasion, the Minister of Home Affairs also asked BPKP to carry out its supervisory function over regions that have not yet implemented the policy.
With these steps, he expressed hope that public housing programmes can run more optimally.
Also present at the meeting were Minister of Housing and Residential Areas Maruarar Sirait, Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Head of BPKP Muhammad Yusuf Ateh, representatives of property developers and other relevant parties.
