Home Affairs Ministry Accelerates Data Validation for 400,000 Home Renovation Target

The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) is strengthening coordination with regional governments to accelerate the implementation of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme, which is intended for low-income communities. This step is being taken through the collection of proposed aid recipients from all regions to ensure distribution is on target.

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that the government is targeting the renovation of 400,000 uninhabitable homes through the BSPS programme this year. This target has increased compared to the previous year, necessitating a stricter data collection and verification process.

“Therefore, we are coordinating with the regions to provide proposals by name and by address, and after that, they will be verified with data from the BPS (Central Statistics Agency),” the Home Affairs Minister told the media following a meeting with Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait and Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti at the Ministry of Home Affairs headquarters in Jakarta on Monday (7/6).

According to Tito, the verification process is not only carried out by BPS but also involves the Ministry of PKP, which has the authority to assess the eligibility of aid recipients’ homes according to programme criteria.

A similar scheme is also being applied to the home renovation programme in border areas. The government is targeting the repair of 15,000 uninhabitable homes in these regions. To accelerate the achievement of the target, the Ministry of Home Affairs, together with the Ministry of PKP and BPS, will hold a follow-up coordination meeting involving all regional heads, regional apparatus organisations responsible for housing, regional inspectorates, and BPS officials at the district and city levels.

Through this coordination, the government hopes the data validation process can proceed more quickly while strengthening synergy between the central and regional governments in implementing the housing programme.

“So that everything moves in parallel to accelerate the target of renovating 400,000 homes,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait expressed his gratitude for the support from the Home Affairs Minister and the Head of BPS, who have greatly assisted the implementation of the housing programme. He noted that one form of support from the Home Affairs Minister was facilitating coordination with regional heads.

“So that coordination can be effective, and communication can also be effective, ensuring this programme runs well,” he said.
