Home Affairs Minister Urges Regions to Immediately Realise Additional Rp10.6 Trillion TKD for Post-Disaster Recovery in Sumatra
Jakarta, VIVA – The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) and also Chair of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction PRR Task Force Muhammad Tito Karnavian has urged the affected regional governments to rapidly realise the additional Transfer to Regions (TKD) for post-disaster management. He stated that the government has disbursed an additional TKD of Rp10.6 trillion to the affected regions, namely Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar).
Tito emphasised that the additional TKD is a direct instruction from the President to speed disaster response and support mitigation in the region. Therefore, regional governments are asked to use the funds for targeted purposes and not divert them to activities unrelated to disaster management.
“Indeed, the President’s intention is that this TKD be provided for disaster management,” he said while chairing the Coordination Meeting of the PRR Post-Disaster Sumatra Task Force, held in hybrid format from the PRR Task Force Command Post, the Central Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Jakarta, Thursday (21 May 2026).
According to Tito, the use of the additional TKD must be focused on rehabilitation, mitigation, and anticipatory disaster measures. The affected regions are asked to use the funds to repair damaged infrastructure, address potential landslides, strengthen river embankments, and accelerate the restoration of public services. Meanwhile, non-affected regions are still asked to use the funds for prevention and strengthening disaster resilience.
“Do not use it for purposes that are too far removed or not related to the disaster,” Tito clarified.
In the meeting, Tito outlined the Ministry of Home Affairs’ monitoring results on the progress of using the additional TKD in the affected regions. He appreciated several regional governments that had drafted activity plans and enacted a Head of Region Regulation (Perkada) as the basis for budget use. However, he noted that some regions have yet to prepare a deployment plan or issue Perkada.
Tito emphasised that regions that have completed budget plans should immediately execute programs on the ground. Meanwhile, regions that only have draft plans were urged to promptly enact Perkada so activities can proceed in line with regulations.
“For those who have completed drafting plans and have formalised them, please proceed with execution and realisation. We will monitor from the Task Force,” he added.
