Home Affairs Minister urges regional governments in Papua to support housing programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian has urged regional governments in Papua to strengthen collaboration in supporting the implementation of the housing programme.
In his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, Tito Karnavian stressed that such efforts are crucial to promoting improvements in public welfare. Housing, in particular, has become a basic need with a strategic role in delivering social justice.
Therefore, the central government has positioned the housing programme as one of the national priorities.
“The President fully understands that one way to establish the state, realise justice, and prosper the people is through the most fundamental issue of housing,” Tito said.
The Minister of Home Affairs explained that the government has prepared various policies to support housing affordability, especially for low-income communities (MBR).
These policies include exemptions from the Acquisition Duty on Land and Buildings (BPHTB) and Building Construction Approval (PBG) for MBR groups.
“So that people who cannot afford it can have purchasing power that is affordable; that’s the goal. This can really help,” he stated.
According to him, cross-ministerial/institutional collaboration is key to addressing national housing development challenges.
The Minister of Home Affairs emphasised the importance of strengthening governance of public services in the regions so that the various policies prepared can be directly felt by the community.
One of the efforts being promoted is the optimisation of the Public Service Mall (MPP) as an integrated service centre.
“We are pushing for a one-stop service called the Public Service Mall, MPP. There, all public services are brought together,” said the Minister of Home Affairs.
With a more conducive ecosystem, housing development is expected to run more optimally.
Tito also reminded that the incentive policies provided by the government need to be maximised to encourage regional economic growth.
“With the conveniences of KUR, the exemptions we’ve created earlier, PBG, BPHTB, VAT, this will create a surge, a wave for building housing; the ecosystem will come alive,” he said.
At the end of his speech, the Minister of Home Affairs invited all stakeholders to jointly support the implementation of the housing programme in Papua so that it can run sustainably.
He believes the programme will provide broad benefits to the people of Papua.
“May our good intentions for the programme across all of Papua, which officially starts today in the city of Sorong, be blessed by Almighty God,” he concluded.
