Home Affairs Minister urges Papua local governments to establish Public Service Malls

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has requested regional governments in Tanah Papua to accelerate the construction and operation of Public Service Malls (MPP) to improve the quality of administrative services for the community while supporting the acceleration of regional development and investment. “The existence of MPPs is an important instrument in simplifying bureaucracy and providing integrated services in one place, ranging from business licensing, population administration, to land and certification services,” Tito said in Jayapura on Monday. According to Tito, the number of MPPs in the Tanah Papua region is still limited compared to the number of existing districts and cities. This condition can hinder the acceleration of public services, investment, and the implementation of various development programmes. “With the limited number of MPPs in Papua, the acceleration of public services and regional investment, including housing development, is less than optimal,” he stated. He explained that without MPPs, the public and business operators must process various permits at many different agencies, making the process slower and less efficient. According to Tito, the presence of MPPs is also important to support various national strategic programmes, including facilitating the licensing process for housing construction for low-income communities. Additionally, MPPs are expected to cut bureaucratic chains that have been obstacles in public services, so that the public no longer needs to manage various documents in many different locations. “Therefore, the existence of MPPs needs to be continuously expanded so that public services become faster, easier, and more transparent,” he said. The central government hopes that accelerating the development of MPPs in Tanah Papua can improve the quality of public services, which will ultimately facilitate investment and improve community welfare. Meanwhile, several other regions are still in the construction or operational preparation stages.
