Home Affairs Minister Urges Papua Governors to Support 2026 Economic Census
Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian is determined to ensure the successful implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. The support was conveyed by Tito following a meeting with all governors and vice governors across Tanah Papua held at the Papua State Building in Jayapura City on Monday (22/6).
“I respectfully request that we support the Economic Census organised by BPS in Indonesia, particularly in Greater Papua,” Tito said in his statement on Monday (22/6/2026).
On that occasion, Tito invited all governors and vice governors across Tanah Papua to back the activity, as the programme will bring numerous benefits to the regions, especially in Tanah Papua.
In line with this, Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, revealed that from 15 June 2026 to 31 August 2026, BPS is conducting the 2026 Economic Census simultaneously across Indonesia. The data collection targets economic activities and the socio-economic conditions of families and households nationwide.
“Therefore, we from BPS request the support of the Home Affairs Minister and the regional heads, especially in Tanah Papua, so that we can work together to make the 2026 Economic Census a success,” said Amalia.
Responding to this, all regional heads across Tanah Papua unanimously expressed their readiness to support the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. The support was conveyed directly by Papua Governor Mathius D. Fakhiri, West Papua Vice Governor Mohamad Lakotani, Papua Highlands Governor John Tabo, and Southwest Papua Vice Governor Ahmad Nausrau.
“On behalf of the Southwest Papua Provincial Government, we are ready to support the 2026 Economic Census,” asserted Ahmad Nausrau.
As is known, Tito has on various occasions invited regional heads to support the 2026 Economic Census. This commitment was realised, among other ways, by signing a Joint Circular (SEB) with the Head of BPS on Monday (15/6/2026). Through this effort, it is hoped the government will obtain accurate data on economic conditions, which will subsequently be used as a basis for formulating policy.
