Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian hopes the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas can accelerate the improvement of slum areas in Jayapura City, Papua. Speaking after a visit to the Tanjung Ria area on Monday, he noted that field conditions still show serious problems, including waste accumulation, suboptimal drainage, and uneven access to clean water for all residents. He stated this is a focus of President Prabowo through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas to speed up the handling of slum areas, as it is an important part of improving the quality of life for urban communities in Papua. He also encouraged local governments to actively support the improvement of these slum areas to ensure safe and healthy facilities. He expressed confidence that collaboration between the central government, local governments, and the community is key to accelerating the transformation of slum areas into more liveable, healthy, and safe environments. The minister added that the home renovation target for Papua Province is over 23,300 units, with 500 homes in Jayapura City, and he hopes this target can be achieved by 2026. He further noted that in urban areas, the government will also carry out home renovations in border areas across Tanah Papua, and therefore community support is expected to realise this initiative.
