Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian apologised to Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the opening of a working meeting presentation on Monday (30/3/2026), related to invitations for the commission’s working meetings.

Tito revealed that he had not attended five working meetings of Commission II DPR because they often coincided with visits alongside President Prabowo Subianto and his trips to Sumatra to monitor the impacts of flash floods, preventing him from attending the DPR RI meetings.

“We apologise if there are any displeasing matters, especially regarding invitations from Commission II DPR concerning me, as I have indeed been absent before. I have no intention whatsoever of disrespecting or undervaluing Commission II DPR,” Tito said during the working meeting with Commission II DPR RI on Monday (30/3/2026).

Tito added that the reason for previously not attending working meetings with Commission II DPR, which had to be represented by a deputy, was due to overlapping presidential working visits, such as inspections of the People’s School (SR).

“The Commission II DPR meeting also coincided with the President’s event that I had to attend, for example, the inspection of the People’s School in Bekasi, where the role of the Ministry of Home Affairs is very important, and only a few ministers were invited because the Ministry of Home Affairs also plays a role in the people’s school,” he continued.

Additionally, the Commission II DPR agenda overlapped with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ review of disaster-affected areas from flooding in Sumatra.

“Ladies and gentlemen of Commission II DPR, I believe you fully understand the conditions in Aceh, Medan, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. That is why I still conveyed an apology to the leadership, asking if the meeting could be postponed by a few days. If it cannot be postponed, I request permission as I cannot attend due to the very short notice, and I delegate to the Deputy Minister (Wamen), because it sometimes coincides with my agenda to review there. So it is not that I do not value or respect, let alone to avoid, no,” he explained.

Furthermore, Tito mentioned that invitations for meetings from the DPR are often not sent far in advance.

“I received it on Saturday for a meeting on Monday, whereas at that time I was in the middle of the forest,” he said.

He also requested that invitations for meetings with Commission II DPR be communicated informally, so that his side could arrange the schedule for the meeting with Commission II DPR.

“I submit a request to the leadership of Commission II DPR that if possible, invitations given to us, even if not yet signed by the DPR leadership, but as soon as there is a plan, it is communicated informally to us, so that we can arrange the time schedule for that event. Thus, we are all ready in Jakarta. Approximately like that,” he said.

“So once again, we apologise to the leadership, I have no intention whatsoever of not valuing, but that is what we convey as what happened,” Tito stated.
