Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian expressed condolences over the death of former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu. Tito stated he knew Ryamizard well, having worked together in the same cabinet.

‘We served together in the cabinet, I as Home Affairs Minister and he as Defence Minister. I knew the deceased quite well,’ Tito said after paying respects at the deceased’s residence in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

He also knew Ryamizard as a senior figure from Sumatra, noting they often discussed Sumatran matters.

‘He had residences in South Sumatra and Lampung. I’m from Palembang, South Sumatra, so I often visited him for matters beyond official duties, including regional affairs in southern Sumatra,’ he explained.

Tito expressed his loss over Ryamizard’s passing and prayed for his peaceful transition.

‘With his passing, we are deeply saddened and pray that Allah Almighty forgives all the deceased’s sins during his lifetime. As humans, we all make mistakes. We forgive his errors and pray for a smooth passage to the Divine,’ he said.

It is known that the remains of Ryamizard Ryacudu, Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019, will be laid to rest at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta tomorrow. His funeral will be conducted with military honours.

‘A farewell ceremony will be held at the Ministry of Defence at 11:00 WIB before the casket is transported to Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta,’ according to the Ministry of Defence.

Ryamizard Ryacudu’s funeral will include military honours, with the ceremony led by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as the parade commander.

‘The deceased’s remains will be laid to rest with a military funeral at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery as a national tribute to a soldier and statesman who dedicated his life to Indonesia. The military funeral ceremony will be led by the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia as the parade commander,’ the Ministry of Defence stated.
