Home Affairs Minister Tito Confirms Expansion of Social Assistance Digitalisation Pilot as a Step Towards Government Technology
Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian supports the acceleration of government digital transformation, or Government Technology (GovTech), as an effort to realise more modern governance through digital-based public services. One of the steps currently being undertaken by the government is the piloting of social assistance (bansos) digitalisation. This was conveyed by the Home Affairs Minister while chairing a Coordination Meeting (Rakor) and Monitoring of the Expansion of the Social Assistance Digitalisation Pilot, held in a hybrid format from the Sasana Bhakti Praja (SBP) Building, Ministry of Home Affairs Headquarters, Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/6/2026). “This meeting is in the context of expanding the social assistance digitalisation pilot in 43 regencies and cities, and this is also the precursor to the road map towards GovTech, government technology, e-government,” he said. The Home Affairs Minister explained that the social assistance digitalisation pilot programme had previously been implemented in Banyuwangi Regency and showed good results. This success is now being expanded to 43 regencies/cities as part of a national implementation. As Home Affairs Minister, Tito emphasised his commitment to coordinating local governments (Pemda) with relevant ministries and institutions so that the programme runs optimally. “Some time ago it was trialled in Banyuwangi. Many thanks to Mrs Ipuk (Bupati of Banyuwangi) and I think it was quite successful. The success in Banyuwangi is now being replicated in other regions. The larger target is 43 and we hope that in the future it will cover all of Indonesia,” he explained. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN) who also serves as Chairman of the Government Digital Transformation Acceleration Committee (KPTDP), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, stated that GovTech will encourage more efficient and transparent governance. According to him, this coordination meeting is part of the effort to oversee the transformation of the social protection system to be more targeted through the use of digital technology based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). He explained that for the first time, the selection process for social assistance recipients is being conducted more transparently and accountably through cross-sector data exchange. The system is also designed to be user-friendly, allowing the public to apply for social assistance independently or through agents without being burdened by document requirements or lengthy processes.
