Home Affairs Minister Tito Calls on PIKI to Take Strategic Role in Achieving Golden Indonesia 2045
Jakarta, VIVA – Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has called on the Indonesian Christian Intellectuals Association (PIKI) to play a strategic role in achieving Golden Indonesia 2045. He stated that intellectuals bear a significant responsibility to generate ideas and solutions that can optimise the nation’s potential.
The minister made the remarks during the handover and inauguration ceremony of PIKI’s Central Leadership Council (DPP) for the 2026-2031 term at Paulus Church in Jakarta on Saturday, 30 May 2026.
In his speech, Tito expressed confidence that Indonesia has a strong chance of becoming a developed nation by 2045, citing its natural resource wealth, large population, and strategic geographic location. ‘I am confident this is achievable,’ he said, quoted on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
He explained that international organisations have predicted Indonesia’s potential to become a developed country by 2045, noting these forecasts are backed by concrete factors that give Indonesia an edge over many other nations.
Tito pointed out that few countries globally possess a combination of abundant natural resources, a large workforce, and vast territory, with Indonesia being one such nation.
Furthermore, Indonesia’s position along major international trade routes presents a significant advantage that must be optimised to drive national economic growth.
However, he stressed that these potentials would not yield maximum benefits without high-quality human resources. Therefore, he urged intellectuals, including PIKI, to contribute through innovative thinking to accelerate national progress. ‘This is the task of thinkers, scholars, and the intelligentsia,’ he said.
He added that intellectual contributions are determined not by quantity but by the quality of ideas and their impact. He cited examples of small-population countries that wield significant global influence due to their human capital quality.
‘Thus, we hope PIKI, with its intellectual capabilities, will contribute to Indonesia’s advancement,’ he concluded.
