Home Affairs Minister Tito and Papua Governors Strengthen Commitment to 2026 Economic Census
Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has expressed his determination to ensure the success of the 2026 Economic Census. The support was conveyed following a meeting with all governors and vice governors from across Tanah Papua at the Papua State Building in Jayapura City. “I respectfully request that we support the Economic Census organised by BPS in Indonesia, especially in Greater Papua,” said Minister Tito on Monday, 22 June 2026. He urged all regional heads in Tanah Papua to back the programme, noting it would provide significant benefits for the region.
Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti revealed that the 2026 Economic Census is being conducted simultaneously across Indonesia from 15 June to 31 August 2026. The data collection targets economic activities and the socio-economic conditions of families and households nationwide. “Therefore, we at BPS request support from the Home Affairs Minister and all regional heads, especially in Tanah Papua, so that we can work together to make the 2026 Economic Census a success,” said Amalia.
In response, all regional heads from Tanah Papua unanimously declared their readiness to support the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. The support was directly conveyed by Papua Governor Mathius D. Fakhiri, West Papua Vice Governor Mohamad Lakotani, Papua Pegunungan Governor John Tabo, and Southwest Papua Vice Governor Ahmad Nausrau. “On behalf of the Southwest Papua Provincial Government, we are ready to support the 2026 Economic Census,” stated Ahmad Nausrau.
Minister Tito has previously invited regional heads on various occasions to support the 2026 Economic Census. This commitment was formalised, among other ways, by signing a Joint Circular with the Head of BPS on Monday, 15 June 2026. Through this effort, the government hopes to obtain accurate data on economic conditions, which will subsequently be used as a basis for policy formulation. The meeting was also attended by Vice Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk, several high-ranking officials within the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as officials from BPS and Papua Province.
