Home Affairs Minister Reviews President Prabowo's Housing Program in Jayapura

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian reviewed the implementation of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme in Kampung Mosso, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, Papua, on Sunday, 21 June 2026. The visit aimed to ensure the smooth execution of the people’s housing programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto, particularly in eastern Indonesia. “Today we are here at this point as a symbol, a symbol to launch the renovation or house surgery of 22,379 homes across the Papua region, with 4,500 homes specifically in Papua Province,” said the Minister. Mendagri explained that the housing programme reflects President Prabowo’s concern for the community, especially low-income groups. He called on regional heads to fully support the programme’s implementation so that its benefits can be widely felt by the people. During the visit, Mendagri, along with the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti and other officials, spoke directly with two beneficiaries, Jems Nufri and Sem Nota Foa, who have long resided in Kampung Mosso. Inspecting the condition of their homes, the Minister assessed that the buildings were indeed eligible for BSPS assistance, citing severe damage such as decaying walls, weak foundations, and roofs that frequently leak during rain. Mendagri noted that the high percentage of uninhabitable homes in the Papua region is a key reason for the need for full support from all parties. “If calculated, the percentage is always the highest in Greater Papua, one in three people live in an unfit house, 30 percent. And this cannot possibly be resolved by the regional budget because the APBD is already focused on education, health, roads, and personnel expenditure,” he added. He stated that the involvement of the central government through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) is a strategic step to accelerate the handling of uninhabitable homes in the region. “This is an unprecedented leap, truly unprecedented. So, regional heads, please give your full support,” he emphasised. Also in attendance were Papua Governor Mathius D. Fakhiri, Jayapura Mayor Abisai Rollo, and several other officials.
