Home Affairs Minister: President Deploys Full Resources to Accelerate Post-Disaster Recovery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, who also serves as Head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force for Sumatra, affirmed that President Prabowo Subianto continues to deploy all available resources to accelerate post-disaster recovery in Sumatra.
"The government, under the direction of President Prabowo, is mobilising all its strength to carry out repairs. I know that all electricity was initially knocked out. The internet was down," Tito said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
His remarks came after he inspected conditions and delivered aid to the community of Bireuen Regency at the Balee Panah Evacuation Post in Bireuen, Aceh.
During the visit, the Home Affairs Minister expressed his appreciation for the positive progress in post-disaster recovery in Bireuen Regency.
According to Tito, conditions are now far improved compared to 29 November 2025, when a number of overland access routes in the area were severed, causing logistics distribution to be severely hampered.
Through hard work and collaboration among all parties, recovery results are now becoming visible. This is evidenced by the growing number of young people who have been able to operate their smartphones and other electronic devices once again.
Tito said the restoration of these technological devices serves as a positive indicator, as the public has regained adequate access to information.
During the visit, Tito noted that lowland areas affected by the disaster in Aceh generally faced the primary challenge of disrupted activities due to mud, in addition to damage to residential homes.
The government is therefore continuing to coordinate and hold meetings to address these issues. He assured that the pace of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction would be accelerated, particularly regarding repairs to schools, places of worship, and Islamic boarding schools. He called on all parties to be patient and await the results of the government's efforts.
"From the first day of Ramadan, I was already in Aceh Tamiang. I have deliberately spent this past week here because I wanted to convey a message. My presence here, meeting with all of you directly, demonstrates that the central government is not sitting idle. We will resolve all the existing problems," he said.
During the visit, Tito also distributed aid to the Bireuen community. The assistance included hundreds of worship supply packages, thousands of pieces of Muslim clothing for residents, as well as hundreds of jackets for both children and adults.
