Home Affairs Minister Prepares Draft and DIM for Election Bill Discussions with Parliament

The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has stated its readiness to address the deliberation of the Draft Law on General Elections (RUU Pemilu), which is currently being prepared by Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR RI). As the lead executive agency, Kemendagri has begun various internal simulations and studies to formulate proposed changes to future election regulations.

Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian asserted that the government has no objections regarding the origin of the regulatory draft. He stated his team is prepared to adapt to any legislative scenario that develops in parliament. “We are conducting exercises, of course. If the initiative comes from the government, we must be ready with the draft concept. If the initiative comes from the DPR, we are ready with the Problem Inventory List (DIM) later, roughly like that,” Karnavian told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (11/6/2026).

Tito explained that the preparations being compiled by Kemendagri cover technical aspects of electoral governance, the strengthening of organising institutions, and the synchronisation of election rules at both the central and regional levels. Tito assured that once the political momentum and timing for the discussion are mutually agreed upon by the government and the legislature, all necessary supporting documents will be fully prepared. “Whatever the scenario, we are preparing ourselves. For Kemendagri, it will certainly lead for the government. We are preparing so that when the timing is discussed, whether from the government or the DPR, we are ready. More or less like that,” he clarified.
