Home Affairs Minister Pays Tribute to Late Ryamizard, a Highly Respected Elder
JAKARTA — Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has paid tribute to the late Ryamizard Ryacudu, describing him as a senior military figure and a highly respected elder in South Sumatra society.
“I knew the late Ryamizard well as a senior and held him in great respect,” Karnavian said in a Ministry of Home Affairs press release on Monday, 1 June 2026.
He added that Ryamizard was widely respected and maintained close ties with various communities, particularly in southern Sumatra.
“He was one of the elders of southern Sumatra, including South Sumatra and Lampung. I am from Palembang, South Sumatra, so I often visited him not only for official duties but also for local community matters,” Karnavian said, referring to Ryamizard, who was born in Palembang on 21 April 1950.
He urged the public to pray for the late Ryamizard’s forgiveness and a place in paradise, and for his family to find strength.
“Let us pray that Allah forgives all his sins in this world, eases his journey to the hereafter, expands his grave, and makes it as beautiful as a garden in paradise, for death is Allah’s decree which we cannot avoid,” he concluded.
Karnavian visited Ryamizard’s residence in Cikeas, Bogor, on Sunday, 31 May 2026, to offer condolences to his widow, Nora Tristyana, and family.
Ryamizard was a military veteran and former Defence Minister of Indonesia from 2014 to 2019.
The late Ryamizard’s body is lying in state at the Ministry of Defence office on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, with President Prabowo attending the lying-in-state.
Later today, Ryamizard’s body will be buried in a military ceremony at Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery in South Jakarta.
