KOMPAS.com – The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has instructed all regional heads and deputy regional heads to remain in their respective regions and stay on standby throughout the period from one week before to one week after Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. This step is intended to ensure the smooth running of local governance during the Lebaran holiday period. The instruction was issued through the Circular Letter (SE) of the Minister of Home Affairs No. 000.2.3/1171/SJ dated 8 March 2026 regarding the Postponement of Travel Abroad during the Lebaran holiday of 1447 Hijriah. The circular is addressed to all governors as well as regents and mayors. In the SE, regional heads and deputy heads are asked to postpone foreign travel from Saturday 14 March 2026 to Saturday 28 March 2026. Mendagri explained that the policy was taken to ensure regional governments remain focused on implementing a number of strategic agendas ahead of and during the Lebaran period. Regional heads are asked to undertake four strategic steps. First, to anticipate potential increases in security and safety risks during the Lebaran holiday and to strengthen coordination with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda). He emphasised that the policy aims to ensure regional heads remain in their jurisdictions so they can respond quickly to the various needs of the public during Eid. “Recommendations for overseas official travel (PDLN) or permission to travel abroad for important reasons that have already been issued for the dates of departure should be cancelled, postponed, or rescheduled,” he said. The circular was also copied to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the Minister/Secretary of State, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Immigration and Penitentiary, and the Secretary to the Cabinet.
