Home Affairs Minister: IPDN Graduates in High Demand Among Regional Governments for Discipline and Integrity
Sumedang Regency (ANTARA) - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has said that graduates of the Institute of Domestic Governance (IPDN) are in high demand among regional governments, as they are equipped with academic ability, discipline, integrity and leadership during their education, and are thus considered ready to support the administration of regional government.
Speaking at the IPDN campus in Sumedang Regency, West Java, on Sunday, Tito said that this year 1,204 cadets will be graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Government Sciences, alongside graduates of master’s, doctoral and vocational programmes.
The graduates will await inauguration as prospective civil servants (ASN) before being posted to various regions.
“The inauguration later will be their appointment as prospective civil servants (PNS), at rank 3A — direct entry, so to speak,” Tito said.
According to Tito, the graduating cadets were selected participants from a highly rigorous selection process. Of around 38,000 to nearly 40,000 applicants, only about 1,204 successfully completed the four-year education, while others dropped out along the way.
He said many regional heads have submitted requests for IPDN graduates to be placed in their jurisdictions, as they are considered to possess the technical competence and character needed by the bureaucracy.
“Because they have not only studied academic subjects, governance sciences and other disciplines, but throughout their four years here they have also been drilled in physical fitness, health, and additionally in ideological mindset, nationalism, integrity, militancy, discipline, and so on,” he said.
“These young people do not necessarily have to return to their home regions; they should first experience other parts of Indonesia. That way, they rotate as Indonesian civil servants, not merely civil servants in their own villages,” he said.
Tito added that the government is still awaiting the inauguration schedule for the cadets from the Palace, and is preparing two scenarios for the ceremony: either at the Presidential Palace or at the IPDN campus.
He explained that inauguration by the President is nothing new, but holding it simultaneously at the Palace still awaits a government decision.
Following the inauguration, the graduates will be deployed to various regions to strengthen the capacity of regional governments and support public services across Indonesia.
