Home Affairs Minister: IPDN a pillar of civil service professionalism and national resilience
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that the Institute of Domestic Governance (IPDN) plays a strategic role in strengthening civil service professionalism and safeguarding national resilience through effective governance.
Tito added that a professional civil service is a key factor in ensuring a nation’s continuity. According to various literature, he said, empires or countries that have endured for centuries are always supported by three main elements.
“In empires or nations lasting over 200 years, three elements are consistently present: a strong military, robust police and intelligence agencies, and a professional civil service capable of effectively and efficiently administering the state,” Tito stated in Jakarta on Friday.
He explained that among Indonesia’s approximately 4.7 million civil servants, IPDN graduates form a core part of the government bureaucracy, especially at the regional level.
He noted that IPDN’s education model emphasises not only academic governance studies but also physical, mental, discipline, and loyalty training. As a result, local governments highly seek IPDN graduates to strengthen regional governance.
“That’s why regional leaders favour them. IPDN graduates are in high demand …. Beyond their governance expertise, they are trained in physical fitness, loyalty, discipline, and readiness to perform duties,” he said.
The Home Affairs Minister said that besides formal education, IPDN is also being developed as a national training centre for civil service capacity. Various vocational training programmes are conducted for local governments, village heads, and regional legislative council members.
“So far, 52 fresh IPDN graduates have been sent abroad, including to Australia, the UK, and the US. Another 100 are preparing for LPDP scholarship tests. We hope they will return as change agents for other civil servants,” he added.
The event included the awarding of Kartika Astha Brata Utama and Honorary Alumni in Higher Civil Administration Education to Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago. He also delivered a public lecture to IPDN students and academic staff.
Attendees included IPDN Rector Halilul Khairi, officials from the Home Affairs Ministry, Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs officials, IPDN cadets, and other invited guests.
