Home Affairs Minister Invites Sumbagsel Figures to Develop Concrete Programmes for 2027-2029
Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri), Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has invited regional heads and figures from South Sumatra (Sumbagsel) to formulate concrete priority programmes that can be realised during the 2027-2029 period.
This invitation was conveyed at the Halalbihalal event for the Sumbagsel expatriate community at Griya Agung. The event served not only as a gathering for maintaining ties but also as a forum for consolidating ideas on regional development.
During the occasion, Tito explained that the meeting stemmed from the initiative of Sumbagsel figures who sought to strengthen unity while promoting tangible contributions to regional progress.
“It is not that we lack nationalism or prioritise primordialism and regionalism. No, that is not it,” Tito stated in a written remark on Saturday (25/4/2026).
According to him, this regional spirit should instead be directed into positive energy through measured programmes that directly impact society.
Therefore, he urged local governments (Pemda) in the Sumbagsel region to compile realistic priority agendas that can be completed in a relatively short time, focusing on achievements that can be felt within a three-year period.
As an example, Tito highlighted the importance of accelerating infrastructure development to improve inter-regional connectivity. The expansion of the toll road network in Sumatra is seen as capable of boosting mobility, strengthening economic activities, and unlocking tourism potential in various areas.
He added that the outcomes of the meeting would be followed up through further discussions with central-level stakeholders to formulate priority programmes ready for implementation.
Through these steps, Tito hopes that strategic programmes will emerge that go beyond mere discourse and truly deliver real impacts for society.
“At the very least, by 2029, we leave something valuable for the community,” he concluded.
The event was also attended by DPD Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, Minister for Villages and Underdeveloped Regions Yandri Susanto, as well as several other relevant parties.
