Home Affairs Minister Inspects BSPS Recipients in West Jakarta, Urges Local Governments to Expand Housing Renovation Support via APBD

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, together with Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait, directly inspected recipients of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS), or home renovation programme, in Kalianyar Urban Village, Tambora District, West Jakarta, on Monday. The inspection, also attended by Head of the Central Statistics Agency Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, was to ensure that housing repair assistance is received by the right people. During the visit, the Home Affairs Minister and his entourage engaged in direct dialogue with residents receiving BSPS. Dialogue was also conducted virtually with several aid recipients in other locations in Jakarta. The Home Affairs Minister directly checked the condition of the homes of aid recipients to ensure the programme is running according to its objectives. The Home Affairs Minister stated that the government consistently conducts direct monitoring in the field. According to him, field visits with the Housing Minister and the Head of BPS have been carried out several times in various regions, including in DKI Jakarta. He revealed that the housing assistance programme has experienced a very significant increase in numbers compared to previous years. The number of houses receiving aid continues to grow, allowing more people to benefit from the programme. He also emphasised that he will coordinate with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government so that support for the home repair programme can be strengthened through the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). This step is expected to expand the reach of the home renovation programme for communities in need. The Home Affairs Minister noted that one aid recipient in East Jakarta claimed to have lived in the same house for 50 years without ever receiving repair assistance from the government. Also present were West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah, DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD member Rani Mauliani, senior and junior high-ranking officials from ministries and agencies, and other relevant officials. A symbolic launch of the BSPS programme implementation in DKI Jakarta was also carried out during the event.
